History

Willcare Always Law was founded in 2016, and is a trading name of Armstrong Legal Consultancy Limited. My name is Maria Armstrong-Langley and I’ve been a practising solicitor for many years. I’m regulated by the Institute of Professional Willwriters for my will writing and lasting power of attorney services. The IPW is Trading Standards approved for your peace of mind. I’m also a practising solicitor and offer other legal services, like conveyancing, through a Solicitor Regulation Authority (SRA) regulated law firm.

About Maria Armstrong-Langley (Director)

I began my career in 1990 as a trainee lawyer for a well-known East Midlands law firm. I qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives in 1995 and went on to become a financial adviser in 1998 for a high street bank. As I was still passionate about a career in law, I returned to the profession and became a solicitor in 2003. I now work as a self-employed consultant solicitor for a leading national law firm practising in residential conveyancing.

During my career, I’ve had experience writing wills and in 2016 founded my own will writing business. I registered and became a full member of the IPW and am now regulated by the IPW as well. As a lawyer with many years’ experience working with people, taking them through a difficult legal process and addressing their needs with empathy and understanding, I now feel that I’m in the perfect position to give my dedication and professional expertise through Willcare Always.

Wills

You may have heard that you can draft your own will or pick up a form from your local stationers. While this may be true, there’s always the possibility for error and this can mean a will that’s open to dispute. Drafting a will – one that ensures your wishes are met – requires legal knowledge, strategic structuring and a detailed understanding of your needs. It’s the kind of will that I can provide for you. I can visit you in the comfort of your own home to take your instructions. I’ll then draft your will, verify that you’re happy with the completed document and then visit you again so that you can sign them before two witnesses. Once your will has been signed, I’ll provide you with the original will plus two certified copies. I can also provide a safe and secure will storage service for a small, yearly fee.

Lasting powers of attorney

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you lost the ability to take care of your own affairs, such as your money and property or even your personal welfare (getting dressed, making decisions about medical treatment, administering medication, eating, ensuring accommodation for holidays etc)? You never know what is around the corner and sometimes tragedy strikes irrespective of age, wealth, social status or gender. A lasting power of attorney is a legal document which grants legal power to a trusted person (or persons) to make decisions for you in the event that you’ve lost the abilities described above. You can dictate when your chosen trusted person can use the powers laid out in your LPA. For example, you may decide that you don’t want your attorneys to have any powers unless you lose mental capacity.

There are two types of lasting powers of attorney. One enables you to appoint a trusted person (or persons) to manage all (or just a delineated portion) of your property and affairs in the event that you’re unable to do so. The other option enables you to appoint a trusted person (or persons) to make decisions about your health and welfare if you’re unable to do so.

I will visit you at home to take your instructions for making an LPA. I’ll advise you on the various options when choosing your attorneys as well as any restrictions you may wish to place on the powers you’re granting them. I’ll also advise you on safeguards you can put in place when it comes to an LPA (e.g. notification of specified persons about your decision to make an LPA).

Once the LPA has been signed, I’ll then submit it to the Office of the Public Guardian for registration. The registration process can take up to two months. Once the documents have been registered, I’ll then deliver them to you together with certified copies. The government’s fee for registering documents at the Office of the Public Guardian is currently £82 per LPA. In some circumstances, you may be exempted from having to pay the fee or allowed to pay reduced fees. I’ll advise you as to whether you would qualify for such reductions.

Conveyancing

Provided by myself via my law firm Lawhive Solicitors

Buying or selling a house or flat? Re-mortgaging? Applying for an equity release loan? Changing names on your deeds?

I’m a practising solicitor and can also provide other legal services, like conveyancing, through Lawhive solicitors. I act as a consultant solicitor for this law firm. They’re regulated by the SRA and are an excellent nationwide law firm as wwhen it comes to the provision of legal services. Note that they are a separate firm and not part of Willcare Always. If you’d like a competitive conveyancing quote via Lawhive solicitors, I can assist. I provide a professional and personal service, meaning you’ll never be put through to a ‘team’. Appointments are held at my office in Loughborough although I can provide a home visit if preferred.
